READY, SET, SUGAR: WHAT TO DO BEFORE
THE PERFECT LENGTH
For that flawless finish, aim for your hair to be around 3mm long – think the size of a grain of rice. If it’s a tad longer, no sweat. We’ll take care of trimming it to the perfect length.
PREP LIKE A PRO
To ensure your session goes off without a hitch, exfoliate your skin at least 2 days prior but skip it the day before, the day of, and the day after. Avoid lotions, creams, and oils on the treatment area, and skip deodorant if you’re getting your underarms done. If you’re currently shaving, let your hair grow for 10-14 days before your appointment. Shower before you come in to keep your skin clean, but keep it bare of lotions and oils.
SKIP THE SWEAT
Hold off on intense workouts or yoga right before your appointment. Exercise ramps up blood flow, making your skin more sensitive and potentially increasing discomfort. Chill out and let your body cool down for the best sugaring experience.
NERVOUS ABOUT PAIN? WE’VE GOT YOU
A little discomfort is normal, especially if it’s your first time or if you’re sensitive to pain. Sugaring pulls hair from the root, so it can be intense. To ease the sting, consider taking ibuprofen about 30 minutes before your session. And if you’re on your period, it’s best to schedule your session a bit earlier. Need a break? Just let us know – we’re here to make sure you’re comfortable.
IN THE MOMENT: WHAT TO EXPECT DURING SUGARING
BLOOD SPOTS: WHAT’S THE DEAL?
Occasionally, you might see a few small blood spots if capillaries rupture slightly during sugaring. This can happen, especially if your skin is sensitive or the hair is coarse. Generally, it’s nothing to fret about. But if you notice anything unusual or excessive, let us know right away.
FEELING OVERWHELMED? TAKE A BREATHER
If you’re feeling overwhelmed or uncomfortable, don’t hesitate to let us know. We’re all about your comfort, so you can definitely take a break to catch your breath and feel more at ease. We’ve got your back.
FRESHLY SUGARED: HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SKIN AFTER SUGARING
POST SUGARING NO-GOS
To keep your skin glowing, avoid heavy workouts, yoga, and tight clothing for a solid 48 hours. Also, skip abrasive exfoliants like loofahs, chemical peels, tanning, swimming, spas, sexual activity, hot tubs, and anything that generates heat. This helps prevent irritation and keeps your skin smooth and healthy.
SKIN REACTIONS: WHAT TO EXPECT
It’s pretty normal to experience some bumps or redness if it’s your first time or if it’s been a while. This isn’t usually a sign of an allergy – true allergies are rare. Reactions usually settle down in 48-72 hours. To help your skin recover, steer clear of heat and comedogenic products, and try not to pick. A patch test is a good idea for sensitive areas like your face or back.
DITCH THE RAZOR
To keep your skin in prime condition, steer clear of shaving between sugaring sessions. Shaving can lead to ingrown hairs and disrupt the smooth finish we’re aiming for due to the coarser texture of regrown hair. Stick with regular sugaring for consistent, smooth results, especially in areas where hair grows in different directions, like around the perineum and labia.
GETTING INTIMATE AFTER A BRAZILIAN OR BIKINI SUGARING?
Not giving advice here, but it’s best to hit pause for at least 24 to 48 hours. Your freshly sugared skin may be more sensitive, and things like sweat and bacteria can spark irritation or even lead to ingrown hairs. Give yourself and your skin some downtime – it’ll thank you.
BEACH TIME AFTER SUGARING
It’s a good idea to steer clear of sunbathing or tanning right after your session. UV exposure can ramp up your skin’s sensitivity, and since sugaring might make your skin a bit more delicate, it’s best to avoid the sun for 24 to 48 hours before and after your appointment. Keep it cool and let your skin chill.
YOUR NEXT SUGARING SESSION: KEEP REGROWTH IN CHECK
Lock in your next session early to catch those hairs at their weakest and start refining regrowth from the get-go. Typically, a 4 to 6-week routine is your sweet spot for achieving lasting hair reduction. Different areas, different rhythms.
Don’t forget, regrowth is personal. Your Brazilian might bounce back faster than your arms or legs, so tune in to what your body needs.
