FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ABOUT HENNA

  • Henna comes from the Lawsonia inermis plant, a flowering shrub that thrives in hot, arid climates like North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. It is an all-natural plant dye, free of chemicals and preservatives.

The henna paste is made with 100% organic body art quality (BAQ) henna powder, raw sugar, essential oils, and rose water. It initially stains bright orange upon removal and gradually darkens to a mahogany hue within 48 hours. Henna has been used for thousands of years for body art, hair dye, and medicinal purposes due to its natural dyeing properties.

  • Although our products use organic ingredients and are safe for sensitive skin, please consult your dermatologist if you have concerns. Inform us of any skin conditions or allergies before booking. Consider a patch test 6 weeks prior to your appointment. If pregnant or breastfeeding, we recommend a pure lavender mix.

HENNA APPLICATION & PREPARATION

  • It is highly advisable to book your appointment 2 to 3 days before your event, as henna takes 24 to 48 hours to fully oxidise and reach its optimum colour.

  • Ensure your skin is exfoliated, clean, dry, and free of substances like lotion, oil, sweat, or makeup. Schedule waxing, massages and manicures/pedicures in advance. Wear comfortable clothing that won't interfere with the application.

HENNA CARE & AFTERCARE

  • It is important to note that henna stains darker on thicker skin areas like palms and lighter on thinner areas like the torso. For a good stain, leave the paste on for at least 6 hours; longer application yields a darker, longer-lasting stain. Lightly spray our aftercare sealant over the dry paste to prevent cracking or peeling, but avoid axe oil, which can dry or irritate your skin. Stay warm to enhance the stain, and apply our aftercare oil on your stain to preserve it. Avoid water-based products, swimming, and strenuous activities.

  • Stain results vary for each individual and are not significantly affected by skin colour. Factors such as water exposure, exfoliation, water-based products, oils, stress, temperature, and high activity levels can influence the outcome of your henna stain.

  • Do not wash the paste off with water. Instead, apply some coconut oil to loosen the paste and gently scrape the paste off using a spoon. Avoid contact with water for as long as possible.

  • Natural henna usually lasts about 10 days and fades as your skin exfoliates, lasting longer on areas like the torso, arms, and legs.

  • Maintaining the light hue after removal is impossible. For a less intense stain, schedule your appointment close to the event date, such as the night before, or leave the paste on for a shorter time and skip the aftercare.

PRODUCTS & QUALITY

  • No, we do not use instant henna or black henna, which relies on the harsh chemical dye paraphenylenediamine (PPD) instead of the henna plant. PPD can cause allergic reactions, chemical burns, or even penetrate the skin and cause bodily harm. Avoid henna that stains any color other than bright orange upon removal and steer clear of mass-produced products. Always inquire about the paste used by your henna artist before your appointment.

  • Hengua is a unique blend of henna and jagua, combining the reddish-brown stain of henna with the blue-black hue of jagua, derived from the jagua tree fruit. This fusion results in a rich mahogany maroon color, ideal for those seeking a deeper, more vibrant stain. The aftercare routine is similar to that of traditional henna.

  • Yes, we offer specially formulated aftercare oils and sealants to help maintain the vibrancy of your henna stain. We recommend using these to preserve your design and prolong the stain.

  • Apply our aftercare oil to the henna stain after the paste has been removed. Massage gently to keep the skin moisturised and enhance the stain. Avoid water-based products during the healing process.

DESIGN & SESSION INFORMATION

  • Yes, you can either select a design or provide inspiration. We also offer custom consultations for a personalised experience.

  • To help you choose the right package, you may want to present your design ideas to us. While we prefer not to replicate other artists' work, we will use your references to inspire new designs and offer suggestions.

  • All bridal sessions are done strictly at the bride’s venue for their comfort and convenience.

  • We suggest holding the henna party the day after the bridal session to minimise distractions and allow the bride to interact with guests. Alternatively, sessions can be done back-to-back, or if you prefer them to run concurrently, an additional artist will be provided for a $50 fee.

  • If you’ve booked under the Intricate Series or a henna party with a bridal package on the same day, an additional artist is recommended. This helps speed up the process and allows the main artist to focus solely on the bride.

BOOKINGS & PAYMENTS

  • Prices vary depending on the complexity and package chosen. Please refer to our booking page for detailed pricing or contact us for a custom quote.

  • Yes, we require a non-refundable and non-transferable deposit to secure your booking, which goes toward the final cost of your session.

  • We accept payment through PayNow/PayLah! only. Full payment is due on the day before your session unless agreed otherwise.
